Iridoplasty

What is iridoplasty?

Iridoplasty consists of the use of argon laser to facilitate the filtration of aqueous humor.

In which cases is it done?

It is performed in those eyes that have a closed angle and a series of anatomical characteristics that predispose to an acute attack of glaucoma (iris on a plateau, which covers the filtering zone).

Previous exams

A complete ophthalmological examination must be carried out, including a gonioscopy to measure the angle and know if it is open or closed.

During the intervention

With the laser, the surgeon will make a series of 360º impacts on the iris, so that it retracts (decreases its surface) and moves away from the trabecular meshwork (responsible for filtering the aqueous humor).
