MD. Iva Krolo, MD, graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Zagreb, Croatia in 2007 After completing her studies, she worked as a PhD researcher at the University Hospital Center “Sestre milosrdnice” (UHCSM) in Zagreb, Croatia, where she earned the title of specialist of ophthalmology in 2014 and finished a 2-year cornea and anterior eye segment fellowship in 2019.
She was a pioneer of cross-linking procedure (CXL) cornea at the UHCSM and implemented specialized CXL procedures (thin cornes and infectious keratitis cases). She was the head of the ocular tissue procurement team, and a corneal transplant surgeon at UHCSM.
From 2021 she joined the Optical Express Group as a refractive surgeon, focusing on laser vision correction procedure She started a fellowship program at University Hospital Antwerp, Belgium, with professors Carina Koppen and Sorcha Ní Dhubhghaill, focusing on lamellar keratoplasty procedures, and Bag-in-the-lens cataract surgery, and continued it at the University Hospital Brussels, Belgium, next to Prof. dr. Sorcha Ní Dhubhghail
In 2023, she started an international doctoral program at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), Belgium, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Sorcha Ní Dhubhghaill (VUB) and Marc Biarnés, PhD (OMIQ-Research). In 2024 she was appointed as an Examiner at the European Board of Ophthalmology (EBO) exam.
For several years she was a member of the Organizing Committee of the Croatian Ophthalmological and Optometric Society (HOOD) and Croatian Organization for Cataract and Refractive Surgery (CroCRS). She is the first author and co-author of numerous scientific articles, principal investigator in multicentric studies, and an author of congress abstracts, university textbooks and manuals. She actively participates in foreign symposia and congresses and is a member of the ophthalmological societies (HOOD, CroCRS, ESCRS, EuCornea, ECLSO, EuDES, EuRetina, Instituto Barraquer). From 2018, she participates as a national classifier of the blind and visually impaired athletes (IBSA). She is the winner of the scholarship of the European Society of Ophthalmologists (The Societas Ophthalmologica Europea) and the Croatian medical chamber.
She joined OMIQ in 2024, as a cornea an anterior segment specialist and a part of the research team.
